The City
New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down
New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down
How can you be in love with a place you have never been to? That was the question I wanted to answer when I began researching the city project. From a very early age, I have always been fascinated with the city, coming from a rural background all my life I have always wanted to move to somewhere bigger and brighter and no other city shines like New York.
Collecting old photographs, anecdotes and keepsakes I began to piece together my love for New York in a way that an audience could understand and as the story progressed I began to look into the other ways I loved the city that never slept. Using songs, films and books which have made me love New York over the years I explored how one can be in love with a place through knowing about it by watching it on screen or picturing it in their imagination creating their own personal interpretation of that place.
