Dublin Canvas is an idea, a community art project intended to bring flashes of colour and creativity to everyday objects in the City. Less grey, more play. The project takes previously unused public space and transforms it into canvases to help brighten up the City. Making Dublin a more beautiful place to live, work and visit.
I was delighted to be selected for the Dublin Canvas Project last summer and eager to brighten up my locality. Over a few days, several cups of tea and after speaking with some lost direction seeking tourists I completed my box just before the evenings got too cold.
‘Heart of the Liberties’ is an ode to the hustle and bustle of the Liberty Market and the shops/traders of Meath street & Thomas Street. Some of which have been there for generations. As the city modernises it’s the families who run these businesses that represent the heart of one of the oldest communities in Dublin.
